Building Information Modelling

Building Information Modelling (BIM) is a digital representation of the physical and functional characteristics of a facility. A BIM is a shared knowledge resource for information about a facility forming a reliable basis for decisions during its life-cycle; from earliest conception to demolition. A bundle of processes, models and software used to produce, communicate and analyse construction. BIM has become a standard in the construction industry enabling major improvements in Engineering, Procurement & Construction delivery and reduction of CAPEX and schedule.

Coupling 3D models
with real data

The addition of metadata in the 3D model also opens new territories to re-use the available information for Operation & Maintenance. Coupling the 3D models with real data collected on site allows the creation of a “Digital Twin” of the assets. Comparison of simulated behaviors with actual data on site increases the expertise on lifetime prediction and operation optimisation. BIM has many applications when coupled with Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality technologies.
